मैंने अपनी बच्ची निवेदिता को जन्म देने के बाद ही अपने पति को छोड़ने का फैसला कर लिया। ऐसे पति के साथ जो हमेशा मारपीट करता रहता था, मैं अपना और अपनी बच्ची का भविष्य सुरक्षित महसूस नहीं कर रही थी। मैं अपनी बच्ची निवेदिता को प्यार भरा माहौल और बेहतर जीवन देना चाहती थी लेकिन शायद भाग्य को कुछ और ही मंजूर था। निवेदिता के जन्म के 6 महीने बाद, उसे बीटा-थैलेसीमिया मेजर, एक प्रकार का ब्लड डिसऑर्डर हो गया जिसके कारण पिछले सात साल से हर महीने ब्लड ट्रान्सफ़्यूजन करना पड़ता है ताकि वह जिंदा रह सके।
लेकिन अभी तक उसकी हालत में अभी भी सुधार नहीं हुआ है। बल्कि उसकी तबीयत इतनी बिग़ड़ गयी है कि उसे अस्पताल में भर्ती होना पड़ता है। इस बीमारी के वजह से न तो वह अपना बचपन जी पाई है और न ही मैं उसकी बुनियादी जरूरतों को पूरा कर पाई हूं।
जब से मैंने अपने पति को छोड़ा है, मेरे माता-पिता निवेदिता के इलाज में मदद कर रहे हैं। लेकिन जैसा कि वह बड़ी हो रही है, डॉक्टरों ने सुझाव दिया है कि उसे अस्थि मज्जा प्रत्यारोपण की आवश्यकता है अन्यथा उसकी स्थिति बिगड़ जाएगी।
हमें बताया गया है कि इस उपचार की कीमत 38.3 लाख रुपये होगी जो हमारे जैसे लोगों के लिए बहुत बड़ी राशि है। मैं चाह कर भी कुछ नहीं कर सकती क्योंकि आर्थिक तंगी के कारण मेरे हाथ बंधे हुए हैं। हाथ जोड़कर आपसे प्रार्थना है कि आपसे जो हो सके मेरी बच्ची की मदद करें ताकि वह भी अन्य बच्चों की तरह अपना बचपन जी सके।

I decided to leave my abusive husband after I gave birth to Niveditha, hoping to provide her with a loving environment and a better life. But fate had other plans. 6 months after her birth, she was diagnosed with beta-thalassemia major, a type of blood disorder.
Since then, my little girl has to undergo monthly blood transfusions so that her haemoglobin level and red blood cells count are enough to help her survive.
She is now 7 years old and her condition has still not improved. Instead, her blood levels fluctuate so much that she has to be admitted to the hospital quite frequently.
Blood transfusion procedures are so painful and scary for her that she always holds my hand tightly throughout the process. No matter how much I try to distract her, the pain and fear is always visible in her eyes.
Due to her disease, she has had a very secluded childhood and because she is an only child, she doesn’t have anyone to spend time with her. That is why when anyone visits us, she gets very excited and insists them to stay for a little longer regardless of their age group.
As a single parent, I work long days so that I can provide her a good life. I do everything in my power to ensure that she gets a good education. She wants to become a doctor when she grows up and I am determined to make her dream come true. I work as an assistant and earn just enough to cover the basic needs but her treatment cost is too huge for me.
Ever since I left my husband, my parents have been helping with Niveditha’s treatment. But as she is getting older, the doctors have suggested that she needs a bone marrow transplant otherwise her condition will deteriorate.
The doctors could not find a 100% match for a donor so things were getting even more complicated. But the doctors suggested another method in which someone who matches 50% can also donate and so I was tested to become the donor. My family and I were very happy when we heard this but unfortunately things were not that simple.
We are informed that the treatment will cost Rs 38.3 lakh ($ 51081.51) which is an amount too huge for people like us. It really breaks my heart knowing that there is a way to save my daughter from this endless suffering but due to my financial constraint, my hands are tied.
No person should have to witness their loved ones suffering even a bit but Chandana is helpless. She has already suffered a lot during her marriage and after leaving her abusive husband, all she had in her mind was to provide her little girl with a better and more caring environment.
